In a significant boost to their roster, the Oklahoma Sooners have secured commitments from two standout players: quarterback John Mateer and offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu.

John Mateer, previously with Washington State, was the top-ranked player in the transfer portal. In his sole starting season, he completed 64.6% of his passes for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also setting a program record with 15 rushing touchdowns. Mateer will have two years of eligibility remaining and is expected to be an immediate starter for the Sooners in the 2025 season.

Febechi Nwaiwu, a former freshman All-American offensive lineman from North Texas, has also committed to Oklahoma. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 316 pounds, Nwaiwu started 12 games in 2022 and earned third-team All-AAC honors in 2023 despite battling injuries. His addition is anticipated to bolster the Sooners’ offensive line, which is undergoing significant changes with all five starters from the previous season departing.

These acquisitions underscore Oklahoma’s commitment to strengthening its offense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
