BREAKING NEWS : South Carolina coach Shane Beamer just dropped a sharp hint at who might be a candidate for the OC job…Read more

In the wake of offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains’ departure to become the head coach at Appalachian State, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer is actively seeking a successor to lead the Gamecocks’ offense. Beamer has indicated that internal candidates are under strong consideration for the position.
One prominent internal candidate is Mike Shula, who joined South Carolina’s staff as a senior offensive assistant coach earlier this year. Shula brings a wealth of experience, including a tenure as head coach at Alabama from 2003 to 2006 and various coaching roles in the NFL. His familiarity with the team’s current offensive system and his extensive coaching background make him a compelling choice for the coordinator role.
Another potential candidate is Shawn Elliott, who was named the run game coordinator and tight ends coach in February. Elliott has a longstanding history with South Carolina, having served on the coaching staff from 2010 to 2016 in various capacities, including interim head coach in 2015. His deep ties to the program and experience with the team’s offensive line could make him a strong contender for the offensive coordinator position.
Beamer emphasized the importance of finding the right fit for the program, stating, “I want to make sure I get the right guy in here… you’d love to have it done sooner than later, just for clarity. I also don’t want to rush it just to say that I hired somebody.” This deliberate approach underscores his commitment to maintaining continuity and building upon the offensive successes achieved during the past season.
As the search progresses, the South Carolina football community remains attentive to Beamer’s decision, anticipating an appointment that will sustain and enhance the offensive momentum established in recent years.
